Yellowstone Net,
launched in May 1997, quickly became the most popular Yellowstone Internet site and
one of the most popular outdoor sites on the Net. Many hundreds of other sites
soon linked to Yellowstone Net. In the early years of the Net, sites
competed for a variety of online awards. Yellowstone Net garnered scores of
such awards and
recognitions from 1997 to 1999. The year 2000 brought the dotcom
bust, and signaled the beginning of the "professionalization" of the Net.
