Canyon Fall Victim’s Identity Released – Yellowstone

The identity of a woman who died June 7 while hiking in Yellowstone National Park has been released.

The victim is 18-year old Maria “Masha” Sergeyevna Rumyantseva of Kaliningrad, Russia.

The woman was hiking with three friends near Inspiration Point in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone when she ventured off trail onto a rock ledge, which broke loose underneath her.

Yellowstone Rangers with the aid of a Teton Interagency helicopter recovered her body approximately 400 feet down into the canyon on June 8.

The accident remains under investigation.
