Re: Yellowstone? I've done it all.

Oh I know I can find more, but I was disappointed at his attitude. I mean it's his job to know this stuff and he either didn't or didn't want to bother. Oh well, not the first for that in any profession.

Yellowstone? I've done it all.

At least according to the ranger at the visitors center this past summer. Now I am a multi trip visitor who does some, but not intensive hiking, in addition to the easy stuff like the Upper Geyser Basin, but I rattled off some of the things I've done there and asked for suggestions for new trips. An...

Re: Bear Jams in the Chicago Tribune

So what's the solution? There is no easy answer, but there are few things that could help IMO. Hallelujah! You're preaching to the choir here. 1. Increase ranger presence to assist with traffic control around bear/bison jams and in busy areas of the park. We just returned from Banff/Jasper and they...

Re: Bear Jams in the Chicago Tribune

Yada Yada Yada, talk about a shallow editorial. Bear jams are nothing now, bison to me seem to cause more and will sometimes just hang out in the road for extended periods of time, which is ok, it's their park and home. But the writer should have seen what it was like in the 60s, or watch some video...

Re: Amazing Yellowstone flooding

And the big tour buses full of unruly tourists will continue unabated. Arrrgg. Maybe it's cultural as so many on the buses seem to be from outside the country, but boy are they rude and diminish others experience. Quoting from the NPS website, While the park’s north loop remains closed due to flood...

Re: Amazing Yellowstone flooding

I worked for a county government for many years and I used to describe the time frame for things as either glacial or avalanche. Meaning it either didn't even seem like anything was happening, but if push came to shove, you couldn't believe how fast things could happen. My guess would be at least Ga...

Re: August 17-18

Yeah, nobody's fault, it's hard to get good weather every year on vacation, much as I might like it. I do recall a similar comment, I think from the motel proprietors, about rain. Which being in Northern California I can appreciate. A couple of weeks later though we're looking better, more than last...

Re: New Photos: Yellowstone Winter 2020 Wildlife & Scenery

Max, once again I'm just stunned at your photos. Not just the skill to take the pictures, but the patience to wait and see what happens, then the ability to capture and frame it. I take a lot of pictures and people have said nice things about them, but I know I just have an eye for framing the shot ...

Re: Pictures Added Scary Moose, Bear Encounter Glacier 6/21

Interesting. I've heard people say Moose are more dangerous than bears, I do keep it in mind just in case, but this is the first time I've heard of a threatening encounter. Good to know about Bear spray working on them. Foxes are funny, usually super shy, but once in a while they only avoid you. Fir...

Re: Mike Enzi op-ed on raising NP entrance fees

Just a bit late to the discussion, but I've been screaming about this for years. Now I suspect this may be the only issue Mike and I would (would have, he's now deceased) agree on, but emphatically yes. I'm not against our international visitors, (and I think of them as international, not foreign) a...
