Re: Mary Mountain Trail and Violet Hot Springs - August 11, 2019

Thanks, Scatman. We did 13 miles to Sheep Lake and back near the Continental Divide Trail in the National Forest (Custer Gallatin I believe). So it was a fairly strenuous hike. I believe we could do the Mary Mountain Trail, but I might have to convince Karen :) . Thanks for the tips on the followin...

Re: Mary Mountain Trail and Violet Hot Springs - August 11, 2019

Great report! Thanks for sharing. We have thought about trying to do this hike, but have not made the commitment to do the distance. We have only done about 13 miles max in a day and also have a bit of a concern over grizzlies in that area. Glad you got to see one from a distance. Thanks for taking...

Great report and beautiful photos! Thanks so much for sharing. AND I'm impressed that you made the hike -- it would be much more than I could do. Very impressive.
Thanks Dorothy.

Re: Mary Mountain Trail and Violet Hot Springs - August 11, 2019

Awesome! I tried to hike it once but had to turn back after a couple miles because there was too much mud from the snow melt. We ran into a couple of areas that were wet and muddy, even in August, heading through Hayden Valley. We tried to work our way around them as best we could, but it was prett...

Mary Mountain Trail and Violet Hot Springs - August 11, 2019

A day after our canoe trip on Yellowstone Lake, we completed a day hike along the Mary Mountain Trail, and took a short side trip to check out the Violet Hot Springs thermal area. My wife had picked us up at the end of our canoe trip at Sedge Bay on the 10th and we returned to the Grant Village Camp...

Yellowstone Lake - A Two Week Paddle Trip - July 28, 2019

Sorry that it took me so long to get this report done, but better late than never I guess. :D My daughter had graduated from high school and was getting ready to start her freshman year at college, so before she started on a new phase in her life, I thought it would be nice to spend a couple of week...

Re: Electric Peak and Sportsman Lake - August 14, 2018

The young elk were having the most fun, but some adults were joining in. I wanted to stay even longer and continue to watch them, but alas I had to leave to get to our next campsite.

Electric Peak and Sportsman Lake - August 14, 2018

Headed up to the northwestern part of the park for my next backpacking trip. This was originally supposed to be a five day, four night trip that would begin at the Bunsen Peak Trailhead and would include a two night stay at campsite 1G4 on the Gardner River, climbing Electric Peak on our second day ...

Buffalo Meadows - July 29, 2018

Well, to finish off the report on our trip to Little Firehole Meadows and our subsequent day hikes, on our third day, we had to move campsites from 0D2 back down the trail to 0D3 at the Little Firehole River Falls. I had originally requested, back in April, campsite 0D2 for three nights but someone ...

Re: Plateau Lake - July 27, 2018

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the write-up and I apologize for not creating the trip report closer to the time that I actually did the trip. Besides the day hike on this trip to Buffalo Meadows that I still need to report on, I have a trip to Electric Peak and Sportsman Lake that I completed in August, ...
