Re: Thoughts on third week of Sept for YNP, Bozeman, Big Sky?

It could be fine or it could be a mess. We were just out there and had two days of snow and three days of decent weather. I'd be really careful without 4-wheel drive, especially if you are going off the main road. Have you thought about renting a 4WD vehicle? At this time of year you can usually ge...

Re: Polarizer use in photography

Thanks, great pic. The problem I have sometimes had when using my polarizing filter is that it often darkens the whole image too much, even when I try to compensate the exposure for that. It also will cause a longer exposure unless I change iso, so I also have to take that into account.

Re: Thoughts on third week of Sept for YNP, Bozeman, Big Sky?

You may have snow, obviously, but with the exception of a huge snowstorm, accumulation is still fairly low. The northern road should still be drivable without four wheel drive, keeping in mind that they still break out the snow plows if there's a big storm anyway. Take it slow in colder conditions ...

Re: Thoughts on third week of Sept for YNP, Bozeman, Big Sky?

I'm now thinking about late October for this visit. What's it like around Bozeman and the north side of YNP at that time? I do not have an all wheel drive vehicle. Thanks!

Pics--RMNP early Sept, 2019

I was able to spend some time in Denver/Estes Park/RMNP the second week of September. We hit the weather just right and it was gorgeous. Hiked around Bear Lake and to Alberta Falls. Went over to the Colorado River headwaters. The leaves had not begun to turn, with the exception of a single tree on t...

Re: Clear water pools

Superb! Just curious if you used any sort of polarizing filter to get the water so clear?

Thoughts on third week of Sept for YNP, Bozeman, Big Sky?

I'd be looking to view wildlife in the north side of YNP, on those roads that run south out of Bozeman, the national park and forest roads off of 191, and perhaps check out the Big Sky area. Any tips greatly appreciated. Or, if this is a bad plan, let me know.

Re: Wolves on Elk Refuge web cam?

3 Canines out near the barns at 9:36 PDT look bigger than coyotes but can not tell if they are wolves or coyotes, elk remaining pretty calm for having dogs running around them so I am inclined to think that they are coyotes I'm thinking coyotes, since there are only two or three of them and they sta...
