Re: Yellowstone? I've done it all.

I am often disappointed in the rangers knowledge too. More so at our State parks. But I always give them the benefit of the doubt. When we canoed into the Shoshone geyser basin we met a backcountry kayak ranger there that was well into his first year in the park. His job was so specific and remote t...

What a great encounter, especially with the howling so close.

Re: YNP Oct 20-24

Karen and Bill, I agree it would have been great to meet you in person. I really appreciate your year round reports. Having access to the park in the off season and posting reports really helps to keep me engaged with the area. I envy that you have access to a Great Gray Owl without even entering th...

YNP Oct 20-24

I had an opportunity to visit the park one last time before the roads to the interior closed for the winter season. This was the latest I have ever visited the park with the roads still open. There was a black bear sow that had dug a den for her two cubs to winter in. She has been there for a couple...

Re: Wolf, Moose, and Raspberry Jam Oct 23, 25, 29

We must have crossed paths a couple of times. I also saw the Black Wapiti wolf in Gibbon meadows as well as Raspberry and Jam at Lake Butte that same day. Glad you got to see some moose. I am putting up a TR report soon.

Thanks for the report. Great animal encounters! The badger session looks great considering it was from your car window.

The first thing I noticed as I drove north from Flagg Ranch was that both Lewis and Yellowstone lakes were still covered in ice. Even though it was warm,it was kind of a neat feeling to be in the park, before it has fully thawed out. I stopped and looked at Fishing bridge, Sedge bay and other spots ...

Well that is sad. Too bad there is not enough wilderness to relocate him far, far, away. Thanks for the update.

Tetons on way to YNP May 2021

After visiting Market Lake on my drive up North I arrived at Jackson Hole on May 11th. I had a campsite in Gros Ventre. The park road North to Yellowstone was scheduled to open on May 14th. I had reservations in Gardiner for May 16th. So I had five full days to look for bear 399 and her family of fo...
