Re: Alternate routes in

Since nobody I know of refers to teton Pass as highway 26 I will logically assume you mean US 26/287 over Togwotee Pass from Dubois to Moran, WY. I have family with a Guest Ranch outside of Dubois and the south Absaroka Wall is my favorite place on earth. The highway itself is in my obviously biased...

Re: Suggestions on hikes or road trips for Aug. 2018 visit?

Are you also seeing Grand Teton on this Trip? Whether or not it is just Yellowstone I'll simply say you've gotten good recommendations but as much as it might be a lengthier drive Avalanche Peak is IMO far suuperior to Washburn. It doesn't have an observatory, but it does have one of the greatest vi...

Re: Itinerary Help Please

You mention hiking and I see one day of rock climbing; however for the most part this looks like a "checklist" that doesn't offer any substantial [day long] time for hiking or other more focused exploration. Unless you really enjoy going from attraction to attraction and spending A LOT of time behin...

Multiple grizzly bears were frequently observed in Grand Teton in your same time frame.

Re: Best Hikes for Wildlife

Hermitage Point beyond Swan Lake and Heron Pond is GREAT in earlier summer at dusk. Burned Wagon Gulch has almost always been awesome for Black Bears. Glade Creek has also treated me quite well many times. There's a bunch of reasons Grand Teton was rated the number one place on the continent to obse...

Re: Spring trip booked

That's awesome Rik. If I can finish a correspondence here I'm gonna head out to the Gros Ventre Road in an hour or so. NOAA Seasonl Outlook Map indicating good possibility of a drier and warmer Spring. Check out the May June July Map http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/seaso...

Re: Proposed Tri State Trophy Grizzly Bear Hunts

I'm going to play Devil's advocate so please forgive the bluntness. If 3/4 of the Grizzly population dissapears in just a few years as you fear it will not be from hunting; they would be RELISTED long before hunting could do it alone. Pointing out the prevalence of human/bear confrontations is an ar...

Re: Hunting Park Grizzlies

However disagreeable I am I respect your point and appreciate the "debate." I love seeing roadside bears too but I'm not fond of the notion of redrawing decades if not centuries old boundaries to satisfy emotional attachments to individual animals in a broad ecosystem where their numbers have recove...
