Yellowstone/GT Oct. 1-6

Had a GREAT trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton early in October, and want to share a few highlights. My sister and I had intended to take an old school friend of hers with us on this trip, but car troubles prevented that from happening, so it was just the two of us. We left very early on Thursday m...

Re: Park Still Seeing Heavy Traffic

You guys are the best (and yes, I see it's karenandbill rather than how I had it earlier!:) ) We are hoping to get an early start and get up to Yellowstone on Thursday sometime. It would probably not be until about 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. if we were coming into West Yellowstone, so that was what concerne...

Re: Park Still Seeing Heavy Traffic

I echo your thoughts, @billandkaren -- I'm happy that more people get a chance to experience this wonderful park, but ... I always schedule my visits in early spring and later fall to try to avoid the crowds, so I'm not really thrilled that it's still really crowded. Sigh -- was hoping for some "wid...

Re: Huge Grizzly Guarding Elk Kill Sept 19

Great photos! A HUGE grizzly for sure. Saw the YouTube video of the bear taking down the elk. It's amazing. Wonder why the bear hasn't been feeding on the carcas. That's strange. Still, great photos. Thanks!

Re: Is the Upper Grand Loop a must do?

@karenandbill gave you some great advice. They are the best! I can give you only a couple of additional thoughts -- Mammoth Hot Springs is often a great place to see elk -- there is a "resident" elk herd that hangs out in there through most of the year, and at this time of year there are often a cou...

Quick GT trip

OK, this isn't exactly a Yellowstone report, as we never made it up there (reports that the tanker road closure might still be in effect left us figuring it wasn't worth the time to see if it was open), but we did had a couple of days in Grand Teton to report on. I had just 2 1/2 days off work -- go...
