Re: October 2017 Current conditions

Snow overnight in places. Some roads were icy (apparently there was a van on its side off the road near Phantom Lake this morning), but Dunraven was open.

Brazil 2017 Wildlife

I previously shared my bird photos from my summer trip to Brazil. I've uploaded general wildlife and scenery photos in a separate gallery on my website . Here's a preview: Jaguars are the main attraction in the Pantanal. We had several encounters, and were lucky to witness a lot of interesting behav...

Re: End of May, 2017

Rick, nice work. The coyote/goose chase is great. It's always special to see interspecies interactions in the park. Don't be too upset about missing otters up there. I did see them at Trout/Buck Lakes on May 29th this year, but that was my first sighting there in a few years. The last couple years t...

Re: Ordered a new lens for the trip

That lens works surprisingly well with the 1.4x teleconverter (especially given how the old one basically didn't cooperate with teleconverters at all). I'll be curious to see if it's adequate for you, Rick, since I know you've used big primes in the park before.

Brazil 2017 Birds

In late July I traveled to western Brazil to scout locations for a future photo tour. The main wildlife attraction in the area is jaguars--it's the best place on earth to see and photograph them in the wild--but there's loads of other wildlife as well. I've made several trips to the Latin American t...

Re: Replacing camera memory cards

Alicia, I'm not sure it was clear to everyone what you meant. I'm assuming you meant replacing old cards (throwing them away) and purchasing new ones, rather than just when to swap them out of the camera while you're in the field. In the case of the former, I've held onto my old cards for some time....

"There are no bears in this area of the park." Sigh.
