Lens question - Canon 100mm IS Macro

Got 2 quick questions on the Canon 100mm IS macro lens. I've got the original version of the 100mm F2.8 macro and a 7D that I've used before for photographing wildflowers. 1) Do you think that it would be worth the cost to upgrade to the 100mm IS version and 2) Has anyone ever used a 100mm IS macro ...

Re: Grizzly 815 and her cub

Outstanding shots, Rik! Have you been over to Swan Lake Flat yet, to check on the bears over there?

Re: American kestrels

Lovely shots of the Kestrel, Rik~ As I recall, there used to be a nest in one of the white birch trees not far from the road. Is this the same nest location in Little America where you took your pix?

Re: Gear Question

Rick, check out this link at B & H: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1077476-REG/lowepro_lp36776_lens_trekker_600_aw.html?sts=pi Was thinking that it might be perfect for either your 500 or 600 setup. I've got a brand new one that's never been used. Bought it in 2015 just before I started havi...

Belted Kingfisher-Female

Been away from photography for a while but I'm feeling pretty good right now. So I've been working hard this month trying to get my photography skills back. Thought you might enjoy seeing my first photo effort. I was sitting down on a log by one of the back channels along the Stillwater River. Was l...

Re: Kestrel

Great shot, Rod! We had a Kestrel sitting on our tree fence just last week. Felt so sorry for it. It was snowing pretty hard. The Kestrel had to be freezing. We've had quite a few birds flitting around our house this month....some of the regulars that come back every year. But over the past two week...

Re: May 24, 2018

Many thanks for posting such a super report, Linda. It was very, very helpful. And, as for your pix, IMO, they get better and better with each passing year. Considering all the rain and lousy weather we've had lately, I'm surprised that you were able to photograph anything. So please don't be too ha...

Re: Gear Question

Rick, sounds like you've got your gear pretty well covered. But I agree with Max. Since you've got a tripod for your 600, I really don't see the need to bring a monopod. Unless of course, you enjoy being a beast of burden when you're on vacation (hee hee). The 100-400 is usually my go-to lens when I...

Re: Hawk

Beautiful capture, Rod. I might be wrong but I think it's a Cooper's Hawk. We get quite a variety of hawks in the GYE.
