Re: Crazy early October

What a bummer, Linda. We got lucky this year when we left MT for warmer weather down south....we missed all that snow by a day. Our neighbor in MT said that our house got buried in 6 inches of snow last Wednesday. Glad I wasn't there....would have been stuck at home for at least a week. Glad you're ...

Re: Late Sept/early Oct. trip

Sure hope so because you really hit the jackpot....bears, birds and bison...oh my! Congratulations and many thanks for giving us such a great re...

Re: A few days of fun in the park

Tim, here's the link to my Flickr page that has the pix of some of the thermal features and rock formations that can be found along the "drive through" road at the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces. Yikes, I can't believe that I took those pix back in Sept. 2014. I took the trip with Marion D. , aka "elk...

Re: A few days of fun in the park

Tim, nice to know that you had a good trip. Hope you were able to see the unusual thermal rock formations that can be viewed along the "drive through" road for Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces. In the past, I had always avoided the area like the plague because of all the traffic and tourists. But about ...

Re: Food in the backpack

Tom DO NOT drink any water that comes directly from the rivers and streams unless you use a certified water purifier to filter and remove all the contaminates and parasites from the water (ie: a Bota Bottle or a purifier that's similar). Back in the late 70's I guzzled down some mountain stream wate...

Re: Food in the backpack

Tom, I use air-tight re-seal-able freezer bags to store just about everything whenever I'm camping or hiking. They're super light, air-tight and best part, they're cheap and can be purchased in different sizes at grocery stores. I always keep on hand a good supply of the pint, quart, snack and gallo...

Re: Yellowstone Trip Report - June 13 thru July 12, 2019

Rik, I was planning to go back to the Park after Labor Day. But I've decided to forgo the trip. Until I see a change on how rangers treat Park visitors and photographers, I really don't have any desire to go back, at least, not this year. Besides, I've got plenty of fall scenery and wildlife to phot...

Re: Yellowstone Trip 6/3 - 6/8

Brad, thanks for your trip report and pix. Loved your photos, including the ones on your blog! I'm sorry and truly empathize with your disappointing campground experience. We've had more than our share of negative Park experiences over the years not only with campground hosts but also with rangers. ...
