Re: Got Some Pix for You

My pix are on Flickr but, for some reason, I can't get them to post here. Is there a problem posting pix from Flickr to the Y-Net Forums or do I need a remedial course? I thought I was following the instructions correctly. But I must be doing something wrong. Has something changed? Am I using the wr...

Re: What is the weather like at the moment in the park

Spike, the month of May in the Park, usually, gets a fair amount of moisture. So be sure to bring a good rain jacket and rain pants, a warm hat and gloves, waterproof boots and warm socks. At the moment, there doesn't appear to be much snow on the ground in the Park except along the edges of the roa...

Got Some Pix for You

Greetings to all. It's been a while since I've posted any pix, but I thought that some of you might enjoy seeing some wildfire sunset pix from last August's Bacon Rind Fire near West Yellowstone and some recent pix that I took this past week, right after we got home from SoCal. Seems like our area ...

Re: New member intro

Tom, welcome to the forum! Hope you don't mind but I'd like to make a suggestion about bear spray. If you can, buy the bear spray canister that comes with a chest holster. That way the bear spray will always be out in front of you, at your finger tips, and ready to use. Hikers can't be too careful. ...

Re: Hi and some questions about Yellowstone

Sorry but I forgot to mention this in my previous post. Finding DRY kindling and dead fall to use for starting a camp fire, can be very difficult to find, especially, when the ground, dead fall and grass is wet. So, I bring fire starters from home. They're EZ to make. Here's how to make them. 1) Fir...

Re: Hi and some questions about Yellowstone

Early in the Yellowstone camping season, you need to prepared for everything: snow, below freezing temps, rain, sleet and even hail. April, May and June have historically been considered, the wettest months in the Park. So you need to be prepared for all sorts of weather. Clothing - Your best bet is...

Re: Mammoth CG and RVs

Just thought of another CG that might work for you until you can find a site at Mammoth. It's the Mallard's Rest Fishing Access off Hwy 89 south of Livingston. It's located along the Yellowstone River and has tent and RV sites. I didn't mention it before because it has a fairly steep entrance road o...

Re: Mammoth CG and RVs

Mike, have you considered staying at a campground outside of the Park until you can get a site at Mammoth? The Canyon Campground is 16 miles north of Gardiner on Hwy 89. Sites are only $7 a nite but they're also available on a "first come, first serve" basis. So the CG usually fills up quickly on ho...

Re: Mammoth CG and RVs

Mike, check out this link: https://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/mammothhscg.htm It should give you a better idea of what you may be dealing with. You didn't mention when you were planning to go to the Park. "Spring" covers a lot of territory, Mike. During the summer, you probably won't have a prob...
