Re: Photographing Elk in the fall

I was there fall of 2018 and saw hundreds of elk in both Yellowstone and GTNP. Many Bulls with their Harem and several challenger bulls. I was there this spring of 2019 and saw thousands migrating. I also saw a lone wolf in pacific creek and several in Lamar valley. Start at the Mammoth Hotel if you...

Re: Thoughts/reflections on Texas parks?

I would say it depends on what your interest is. There is wildlife, bears and mountain lions as well as some of the usual desert subjects. That being said, they are hard to find and see. There are some interesting birds near the river. If you like to off road, there are numerous technical off-road r...

Re: Sept 21-Sept 28

Day 4 Out the door by 6 to get to the Gros Ventre by sunrise. After driving down 26 staring at the full setting moon over the Tetons , we decided to make a quick stop for a photo. Horses were in the field at elk ranch flats pullout. Score for a very nice composition. On up the road around 6:50. On 8...

Re: Sept 21-Sept 28

You have actually probably been on it. It is really named Gros Ventre Road. I didn’t realize that. It is where Gros Ventre and antelope flats road meet. If you follow it, it goes up to lower slide lake and then on into the southern wind river range. Once you get to crystal creek camp ground, turn ar...

Re: Sept 21-Sept 28

Day 1 Arrive in Jackson around 12:30 and went straight to Moose-Wilson drive. Not expecting too much at that time of day, just needed a good drive to spend some time before checking in our hotel. We saw the back bear and her 3 cubs in the berry bushes just before the beaver ponds. After checking in ...

Sept 21-Sept 28

Ok so yes future dates. I was here in May and didn’t give a trip report. This is my way of committing. I got some good shots so 399, Blondie and their cubs. I am hopeful to get some comparison shots, bugling elk and some Moose. Planned 3 days Tetons, 4 days Yellowstone.

Re: Northern part of park in early Oct

If you really want to see a Great Grey I suggest a trip to Minnesota in late January. I was able to see and photograph more than 10 different owls as well as a Northern Hawk Owl and 2 Boreal Owls. Having said that, I did note a great grey this May off of Moose-Wilson road. None in YNP. I was up at t...

Re: So, what's the park like this year?

I noticed the buses too. I was there the last week in May. Very bad. We had stopped at inspiration point and saw 9 of the buses parked. We came back later. Too many people. If you go to these places early am and later afternoon, you miss the buses.
