I was fortunate to make 2 trips to the Kruger last year. The first trip was with family members showing them the Park for their first time. The second trip was a minimalist camping only trip, moving very slowly at my own pace. Camping is always fun but yields some sleepless nights due to lions roaring and hyenas carrying on. I like to camp right on the fence and the night sounds really carry through the air.

Good stuff, John. The first lion portrait is great, and I like your monitor shots. Nice find with the wild dogs too.

Thanks Max!
The wild dog sightings were just incredible on these last two trips. In the past it seemed I was quite lucky just to get a glimpse of the dogs and there were not that many packs. Especially on my last trip many of the camps had dog sightings almost every day. My best sighting was 5 adults and over 20 pups for close to 2 hours from next to the vehicle to within 50 meters, just south of Shingwedzi. And I finally got my leopards in the trees which had eluded me on my 5 previous trips.
I also brought a black light for scorpion hunting on the last trip. It was very cool to see how many there were, especially in the trees. I did find several of the Mozambican thick tails which pack a bad neurotoxin punch that can lead to an ICU visit.
