Accessible sites

I have mobility issues(my children would say I also have a mental disability, aren't they PRECIOUS). I am not going to book an accessible site for any part of my trip because, to me, my mobility issues are an inconvenience not a hindrance. There are those far worse off than I. Sometimes I can't walk 5' other times I can go on a leisurely hike.

I would like to find out about sites in Madison that are convenient to the river. This site is going to be the last I visit on my month long camping trip to Yellowstone. I'm willing to bet that I'll be a little sore by then. Currently I'm thinking of requesting site # 286. Not next to the bathroom yet close to the river. Google maps has it as relatively tree covered.

Also looking at Bridge Bay loop I sites 422-426 and Canyon Loop A 19-22.

If you have the information on these sites and choices that would be great. I've used my google-fu abilities and am not sure I trust the folks on most of those sites, ie. someone complained that the Grand Canyon's El Tovar Hotel needed updating(?). Not to sound snooty but,it's a National Historic Landmark not a Hotel 6.

Thanks, dave

You don't say when you'll be there. If you're there before, say, Labor Day, many of your choices will likely be already taken. Later in the season, they start closing some of the loops you mention.

At Madison, I assume you realize that's a tents-only area. That site is somewhat close to the river, but it would be a walk, I think, and I don't know how good of a trail there would be from there to the river. It's also somewhat near the road. There would be some road noise.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for in Bridge Bay and Canyon. The areas you mention would be nice if you can get them.

In Bridge Bay, I've not been in that loop, but we have camped in that area. It's up quite a bit higher than the closer-in loops, which are so crowded together. Be aware that this is grizzly country. Also, we pulled into a campsite on one of the upper loops to find a moose cow and calf standing in our site, and they were not about to leave. Bison also wander through the whole campground quite a bit. That these large mammals are often nearby may be a concern if you have mobility problems.

Much of the Canyon campground is wooded and nice.

Sorry, dates would have been helpful. All dates booked, I have not requested a specific site at any campground. I will be tent camping.

Bridge Bay 6/4-10
Panguitch Utah 6-10-12 Booked but tentative
Canyon 6/12-17
Madison 6/17-22

Thanks, dave

Wow, that's a long drive from Bridge Bay to Panguitch back to Canyon.
Since you're talking about next year, you should be able to get some of the sites you want.
Could be kind of cold at night, especially at Bridge Bay and Canyon, but I imagine you've thought of that.

Whoops! Not Panguitch Utah...that would stink! I'm in Panguitch before heading to Grand Teton NP on May 28th. That's what happens when I'm trying to do two things at once. I'll be in Cooke City 6/10-12.

I'm pretty well set up to camp in any kind of weather. I moved to AZ high desert 4 yrs ago. I lived in various tents for about a year and a half before and while building my house. It's much more comfortable camping in 25 degree weather compared to 95 degree weather. :)

Sorry to all for the terribly inaccurate posts. I'm afraid I've been sifting so much information I'm...well let's just say It's a good thing I've got it all written down, online and in emails.

Well, that makes more sense!
I agree, I'd rather camp in cold weather.
