A few weasel shots from this spring

We saw this little guy on our way home from the park. Technically it's not a YNP park image, but we saw him/her not too far from West Yellowstone, so I am including him/her. I think it is a long tailed weasel, but may be a short tailed. Let me know if you can tell from the images.

It was very shy, and just the sound of my shutter closing was enough to spook it back into it's burrow. I was in the car while I shot all the images, and the weasel was just about 6 or 7 feet away from the car. Sorry about the harsh light.

Hope you enjoy.

Wow, what a find and what wonderful captures. I think that's a "least weasel" if I'm not mistaken. I've only come across 2 of that particular species in the GYE over the years. One was in a pile of small rocks behind our house and the other rascal I was zipping through some wild rose bushes at the Slough Creek Campground in Yellowstone, many many years ago. Congratulations on your discovery and superb images!

Oops....I might be wrong on the weasel ID. Here's a link at the Park website that has pix of both the short-tailed and long-tailed weasels that can be found in the Park. https://www.yellowstone.org/yellowstone ... ve-winter/
Considering it's been so winter-like in the GYE, I'm a bit surprised that your weasel still doesn't have its white winter fur. Let us know which weasel it was that you saw....ya got me curious. :)

Wow. What a great find. Does look like a long tailed weasel. Mostly of the "poser"variety.
He sure gave you some good ones.

Nice long-tailed weasel. What a great find, and the fact that you had sufficient time with it trumps any complaints about the light and time of day.
